Growing up these days can be overwhelming — between school pressures, socialization, neighborhood changes, and the constant bustle, children and teens often face unique emotional and developmental challenges. At Evoke Psychology, we specialize in child and adolescent therapy designed to meet the needs of young people and families in New York City.

Whether your child is struggling with anxiety, behavior issues, school stress, school refusal, or emotional dysregulation — we provide a safe, compassionate, evidence-based environment where healing and growth can happen.

Common Issues & Challenges We Help With

We support children and teens — and their families — who are experiencing:

  • Anxiety, worry, or excessive fear

  • Social anxiety or peer-related stress

  • School stress, academic pressure, school refusal or difficulties

  • Obsessive–compulsive behaviors or intrusive thoughts

  • Mood difficulties, irritability, emotional volatility

  • Behavioral or attention-related concerns (e.g. ADHD-like symptoms)

  • Low self-esteem, perfectionism, self-criticism

  • Adjustment issues (moving to NYC, school transitions, family changes)

  • Family conflict, parenting challenges, or communication breakdown

  • Overwhelm, stress, or trauma-related reactions

Our Approach: What Therapy Looks Like at Evoke Psychology

We tailor therapy to your child or teen’s unique needs, combining proven therapeutic approaches with warmth, structure, and collaboration. Our services may include:

  • Individual Therapy for Children & Teens: Confidential, age-appropriate talk therapy using evidence-based modalities (CBT, DBT-skills, exposure-based work, behavioral therapy)

  • Parent Coaching & Support: We work with parents to build effective parenting strategies, enhance communication, manage challenging behaviors, and support their child’s emotional growth

  • Family Therapy: When family dynamics contribute to stress — we facilitate sessions to improve understanding, communication, and cohesion within the family unit

  • School & Academic Support: Collaboration on school challenges, adjustment issues, and support for academic stress, school refusal, or peer/social difficulties

  • Psychoeducation & Skills Building: Emotional regulation, coping strategies, self-esteem building, stress management, and resilience training adapted for children and adolescents

Our goal is to create not just short-term relief, but long-term tools. We partner with families to support healthy development, emotional stability, and stronger parent–child relationships.

Our Therapy Services

  • Depending on specific needs, therapists may offer specialized approaches such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), mindfulness-based therapies, trauma-focused therapy, and more. These evidence-based techniques are tailored to address conditions like anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, PTSD, emotion dysregulation, and other mental health concerns.

  • This one-on-one approach involves confidential sessions with a licensed therapist. It focuses on addressing personal challenges, improving emotional well-being, and developing effective coping strategies.

  • If you’re struggling managing your neurodiverse child, teen or young adult, parenting support can help you be more effective in managing challenging behaviors and improve your parent-child relationship.

Specialized interventions include Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Parent Management Training (PMT), Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), as well as DBT applications for parenting.

  • Family dynamics can significantly impact individual well-being. Family therapy sessions aim to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen relationships among family members to promote overall harmony and support.

  • In a supportive group setting facilitated by a therapist, group therapy offers individuals the opportunity to connect with others facing similar challenges. It provides a space for sharing experiences, gaining perspectives, and practicing interpersonal skills.

Groups offered include DBT skills groups, exposure groups for a variety of anxiety presentations, academic and emotional support for high achieving high schoolers, as well as parenting-support groups such as SPACE.

If groups are currently not running, the Evoke team may recommend individual skills training.
